What are Content Tags?

Content tags are keywords and thematic labels extracted from your writing that describe what your content is about. They help categorize your work, improve discoverability, and give you insight into the themes, settings, and concepts that define your writing.

Tag Categories

Themes

Abstract concepts that run through your work (love, betrayal, redemption, power, identity)

Locations

Physical settings and places (castle, forest, city, tavern, starship)

Concepts

Ideas, subjects, or systems (magic, politics, war, science, religion)

Motifs

Recurring symbols or patterns (mirrors, water, darkness, flight)

Character Traits

Defining characteristics (brave, cunning, loyal, conflicted)

Setting Elements

Time periods, atmospheres, or contexts (medieval, dystopian, noir, pastoral)

What You Get

Per-Chapter Analysis

Each chapter analysis provides:

Tag Extraction

  • 5-15 meaningful tags extracted from the text
  • Type classification for each tag (theme, location, concept, motif, character-trait, setting)
  • Mention count showing how prominently each tag features
  • Relevance explanation for why each tag applies

Thematic Overview

  • Summary of the chapter's key themes and subjects
  • How tags relate to the broader narrative
  • Emerging patterns across tag categories

Scoring Guide

Tags are not scored on a numeric scale. Instead, each tag includes:

  • Mention Count: How many times the tag concept appears (directly or indirectly)
  • Type: The category this tag belongs to
  • Relevance: A brief explanation of why this tag was identified

When to Use Tags Analysis

  • Identify thematic threads running through your work
  • Discover unintentional patterns or missing themes

Marketing & Discovery

  • Generate keywords for book descriptions
  • Understand your work's thematic positioning
  • Identify comparable titles and genre conventions

Genre Applications

Non-Fiction

Best Practices

Do This

  1. Run across all chapters: Compare tags to see thematic consistency
  2. Look for patterns: Recurring tags reveal your story's true themes
  3. Use for marketing: Tags translate directly to book metadata
  4. Cross-reference with intent: Are the themes you intended actually showing up?

Avoid This

  1. Don't force themes: If a tag doesn't appear naturally, it may not be in your text
  2. Don't over-tag: Focus on the most meaningful and prominent tags
  3. Don't ignore surprises: Unexpected tags can reveal subconscious themes
